Grove Collaborative was founded in 2016 by Chris Clark, Jordan Savage and Stuart Landsberg. They offer a subscription-based online retail service focusing on natural home and health care products. They are a direct-to-consumer model, with no storefronts, and a Certified B Corporation – indicating Grove Collaborative's commitment to social and environmental performance.
Grove Collaborative emphasizes their shipments as personalized, customizable and on a schedule set by the consumer. They offer notifications to remind users when they might be running low on products and allow users to postpone orders without penalty.
Grove makes their own line of cleaning and health products, which they assure customers won't contain ammonia, BHA/BHA, Chlorine, Ethanolamines (MEA/DEA/TEA), Formaldehyde, Cyclomethicones (D4/D5/D6), Octinoxate, Oxybenzone, Sulisobenzone, Paraben, Phosphates, Phthalates, Quaternium-15, DMDM Hydantoin, and Triclosan.
They hold any products they carry to the same standards as those they produce; from the ingredients used, to the manufacturing process and the ethics involved in production.
In March 2015, Grove Collaborative raised another $3.3 million. NextView Ventures led the round which included investments from Tom Williams, Marc Bell Ventures and Erik Blachford.
Grove Collaborative, in July of 2016, announced $6.7 million raised. Bullpen Capital led the round, which included investment from Tom Williams, NextView Ventures, MHS Capital, Kensington Capital Partners Limited, Josh Mailman, James Conigliaro, Hedgewood and Charlie Songhurst.
In April of 2017, Grove Collaborative announced $15.4 million raised through their Series B. The round was led by Mayfield Fund and included participation from Rick Marini and Tom Williams.
In January 2018, Grove Collaborative raised $35 million. Norwest Venture Partners led the round with participation from Mayfield Fund, MHS Capital, Bullpen Capital, NextView Ventures, Serious Change and John Replogle.
In September of 2019, Grove Collaborative announced the conclusion of their Series D with $150 million in financing. The round was co-led by Lone Pine Capital, General Atlantic and Glynn Capital with participation from Greenspring Associates, Norwest Venture Partners, Mayfield Fund, NextView Ventures, MHS Capital and Heron Rock Capital. The round marked $250 million raised and a total valuation of $1 billion for Grove Collaborative.
Grove Collaborative committed the money to expand into clean beauty, develop sustainable and low-waste packaging and strengthen their infrastructure and customer connection.
In April, 2019, Grove Collaborative announced an acquisition of Darby Smart, a video community which shares passions on beauty, home decor and DIY. Grove Collaborative has used Influencers and YouTube personalities to market their products. The acquisition of Darby Smart add an active community of beauty, home and DIY enthusiasts into their community, both for marketing and testing and review.The amount for the acquisition was undisclosed.
In August of 2019, Grove Collaborative announced the acquisition of Sustain Natural, which has sold a sustainable line of feminine hygiene and sexual health products since 2013. The amount for the acquisition was undisclosed. Meika Hollender, CEO of Sustain Natural, will remain the head of Sustain Natural under Grove Collaborative and CEO Stuart Landsberg.

On Thursday, eco-friendly cleaning and home product maker Grove Collaborative announced it had acquired feminine care startup Sustain Natural for an undisclosed amount.
