History

Cadwallader Washburn founded the Washburn flour mill on the bank of the Mississippi River in 1866. In 1877, Washburn struck a deal to form a business partnership with John Crosby to form the Washburn-Crosby company to focus on producing winter wheat flour. The Washburn-Crosby company would later become General Mills on June 20, 1928 after it merged with 28 other flour mills.
