Overview
Frans van Mieris the Younger (born November 24, 1689, in Leiden) was a Dutch painter and historian, best known for his notable work "The Hermit" (Il solitario). He was the son of Willem van Mieris, an accomplished artist in his own right. Frans van Mieris the Younger held citizenship in the Netherlands.
Throughout his career, van Mieris the Younger pursued both the occupations of a painter and a historian. He continued in the tradition of his father, creating works of art that were appreciated during his lifetime and beyond. Frans van Mieris the Younger died in Leiden on October 22, 1763.
