Cryobacterium are a genus of aerobic, cold preferring, rod shaped bacteria. Their most known habitats are soil and glacier ice in the Antarctic and Arctic regions.
Cryobacterium roopkundense is psychrophilic, grows optimally between 15-18 C and was collected at the periphery of the glacial Lake, Roopkund, in the Himalayan mountain range, IndiaIndia.
Cryobacterium arcticum is psychrotolerant, able to grow between -6 and 28 C, and were isolated from Store Koldewey, north-east GreenlandGreenland soil.
