A traditional computer uses strings of “bits” which encode a zero or a one but a quantum system uses qubits in a system where the zero and the one are encoded into two distinguishable quantum states. Quantum computing makes use of superposition and entanglement to process a vast number of calculations simultaneously.Different ways of developing qubits are being researched including superconducting wires chilled near absolute zero, ions trapped by lasers and photons.
