Businesses are selected for inclusion in the incubator program, based on the potential for commercialization, extent of interactions with UCI researchers and technology, and the overall soundness of the business plan. The incubator has no stated interests in specific industries or technologies, so long as those businesses and technologies are associated with University of California, Irvine.
To be accepted by the incubator, a potential company is required to submit their application, which is reviewed by an oversight committee whichthat also requires the potential participants to provide a short presentation and answer committee questions. The oversight committee makes their determination based on the requirement criteria and market potential and notifies the accepted companies. These potential participants are then invited to move-inmove in and work-inwork in the co-working space provided by TechPortal.
The members of the program are offered around 150 square feet of flexible lab space with month-to-month leases, with a maximum commitment of 6six months and a maximum occupancy of 2two years.
