Black in AI is an online based community that works to increase the presence of those that self-identify as black in the artificial intelligence industry. Black in AI's community finds a presence on Github, Facebook, and Twitter. They have 3 communication platforms for their members which are Facebook (for social interactions such as sharing photos, articles, and general thoughts), the Black in AI platform (for research discussions and jobs/internships/fellowship postings), and a Google Group (official announcement list for members and allies regarding events and the direction of Black in AI). Membership to Black in AI is open to self-identifying black individuals interested, and membership is granted after the completion and approval of an online Google Form.
The community started a professional conference in 2017. Research presentation topics include: deep learning, knowledge reasoning, machine learning, multi-agent systems, statistical reasoning, theory, computer vision, natural language processing, robotics, as well as applications of AI to other domains such as health and education, and submissions concerning fairness, ethics, and transparency in AI.
