Bird is a B2C company providing dockless short-term e-scooter rentals. The company was founded in 2017 by Travis VanderZanden. All the scooters are equipped with Bird’s own hardware so they can reduce a scooter’s speed as well as track the location of the scooters.

As of March 2019, the company has 21 investors, with 5 lead investors. Some venture capital firms that have funded Bird are Greycroft, Simon Ventures, Valor Equity Partners, and Hinge Capital.
