Because Animals is a pet food and cellular agriculture company located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded in 2016 by Shannon Falconer and Joshua Errett. Because Animals makes 100% animal-free pet food, treats, and supplements through a combination of cultured proteins, clean meat, algae, seaweed, and plants that are sustainably made and sourced.
Because Animals is driven to bring clean meat into the pet food industry to reduce the need for factory farming, and remove what co-founder Joshua Errett calls "4D meat" that is typically used to make pet food. 4D meat is meat that is coming from animals that are dead, dying, deformed, or diseased, and not fit for human consumption.
The founders of Because animals, Shannon Falconer, and Joshua Erret, met each other while volunteering at a cat rescue shelter in Toronto, Canada. After connecting with each other, they went on to found Because Animals together in 2016 with the goal of creating "nutritious, sustainable, and cruelty-free pet food".
