University of the Free State

The University of the Free State (UFS) is a public educational institute located in Bloemfontein, South Africa. Established in 1904, UFS operates in the higher education industry and is accredited by the Department of Higher Education and Training of South Africa. The university has a motto, "In Veritate Sapientiae Lux".

UFS is affiliated with a number of organizations including the Association of African Universities, Universities South Africa, the National Association of Distance Education and Open Learning in South Africa, and the Association of Commonwealth Universities. The University of the Free State has been granted nine patents to date.
