Browser based on the source code of the Chromium
SRWare Iron is a browser developed by the German company SRWare based on the source code of the Chromium project. The main reason for its appearance is the fact of tracking user actions by Google Chrome browser. SRWare Iron does nothing of the sort. Iron uses the latest versions of WebKit and V8, while Google Chrome uses stable versions of these engines. We can also note the ad-blocking feature of Iron.
Development
Iron was released on September 18, 2008, 16 days after Google Chrome was first released. According to the developers of Iron, the source code of Chromium was significantly modified in order to remove the functionality related to tracking user actions. A developer version was released on January 22, 2009. Later versions of Iron added features based on the Chromium code base, such as theme support, the ability to modify the User Agent, an extension system and improved Linux support.
The first version for Mac OS X was released on January 7, 2010.
There is a modification of SRWare Iron called Andy Browser which features a built-in anonymous Tor network. Self-configuration is also possible.
