Russian State University of Trade and Economics

The Russian State University of Commerce and Economics (RGTEU) is a higher educational institution in Moscow that existed in the period from 2002 to 2014. It was formed by the merger of the Moscow State University of Commerce (MGUK), the Moscow Trade and Economic College and the Moscow Technological College of Nutrition. About 70 thousand students studied at RGTEU and its branches. In 2012-2014, it was reorganized and merged with Plekhanov Russian University of Economics.

The university had 27 branches and institutes in Russia and Kyrgyzstan. The largest branches are: Volgograd, Voronezh, Krasnodar, Kemerovo, Saratov, Kazan, Rostov, Chelyabinsk, Ufa, Perm, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.

Joining the Russian University of Economics. Plekhanov

On December 21, 2012, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation decided to annex the Russian State University of Commerce and Economics to the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics.

The Rector's office of RGTEU, some employees and students expressed their disagreement with this decision and began protest actions. In particular, Professors G. V. Saenko, D. Y. Nechaev and G. Ya. Rezgo went on hunger strike[1] after the order of the Ministry of Education and Science of December 24, 2012 on the release of S. N. Baburin from the post of rector of RGTEU. Acting Rector of RGTEU Andrey Shklyaev said that the decision on the recruitment of students in 2013 will be made after consultations with the Ministry of Education. Minister of Education Dmitry Livanov at a meeting with representatives of RGTEU students on December 28, 2012 assured that all their rights would be respected, and also urged students and university teachers not to participate in political actions.
