The fund made early stage growth investments in technology companies. It invested in the pharmaceutical, software, consumer products, semiconductors, and agricultural technology sectors.

Rising Star Growth fund was the first of three Rising Star funds. The fund was valued at £33 million, which was raised from institutional investors and the North West Development Agency.In 2020, Mercia Asset Management had announced that the fund was full realized and was no longer making investments.
