Overview

Rerun is a company developing a software development kit (SDK) for logging computer vision and robotics data paired with a visualizer for exploring that data over time. The Rerun platform allows users to debug and understand their system by quickly visualizing internal state and data while using minimal code. Rerun is primarily focused on visualizing 2D and 3D computer vision and robotics data over time. However, the SDK is under active development to expand support for more use cases and data types.

Data logged to the Rertun SDK can be visualized in multiple ways. The platform handles live streams from multiple processes across the network and simple playback from recordings. It takes care of serialization, transport, synchronizing streams, out-of-order data, and automatically constructing visualizations with sane defaults. The Rerun Viewer builds configurable visualizations based on the data logged and the relationships contained. It uses transform hierarchies to lay out scenes and connect related data. It lets users scroll back and forth in time and toggle between data along different timelines, e.g. log time and sensor time.

A Swedish company headquartered in Stockholm, Rerun was founded in 2022 by Emil Ernerfeldt (CTO), Nikolaus West (CEO), and Moritz Schiebold (COO). The team started the company after experiencing central visualization tools to bring computer vision and AI to the physical world. In June 2022, the company announced it had raised $3.2 million in pre-seed funding from Costanoa Ventures, Seedcamp, and a number of angel investors. These include Alban Denoyel, Alper Aydemir, Christopher Hopper, David Crawford, Jan Erik Solem, Rasmus Brönnegård, Jeff Powers, Kai Diekmann, Kevin Stumpf, Luc Vincent, Matt Miesnieks, Saskia Sefranek, Sune Alstrup, Till Quack, and Vikas Reddy. Rerun made its code open source on February 15, 2023, uploading its Python/Rust libraries, examples, and documentation.
