Article
The surface is conical, asymmetrical: the south-western slope is steep, the north-eastern and northern slopes are flatter. The mountain consists of flysch . The slopes are covered with beech and fir forests.
Due to the significant relative altitude, the peak of Pikuy is characterized by the presence of a subalpine vegetation belt, the upper limit of the forest here passes at an altitude of 1200-1250 m above sea level . This allows tourists on a short stretch of route to get acquainted with the landscapes and unique flora (rare species of plants grow on top). The top is decorated with picturesque rocks and steep cliffs - small quests . From Mount Pikui you can see landscapes that are longer than views from any other peak of the Dividing Range.
On the north-eastern slopes of the mountain originates the stream Onilov , the right tributary of the river Gusnyanka .
There are many ways to get to Mount Pikui. Polish tourists usually travel from Lviv by train to Syanky station . You can also take a bus to the village of Kryvka , Bilasovytsia or Gusny . But it is best to get to Libohora . Here, local forestry workers will be hospitably welcomed and for a fee will be taken to the pass "Ruska Put" , which is at an altitude of about 1200 m. From Lybohora to the pass the way is short - a little more than 3 km, but fast. From the pass to the top of the mountain - 8 km, climb on foot trampled centuries.
Interesting facts
"Russian Way" - a trade route of the Neolithic era , ie it existed for two thousand years BC. It began in the Balkans, ran along the Danube, then along the Tisza climbed the mountains. There is still a cross with the inscription "Russian Way" on this pass. Until recently, border posts rose along the ridge - there was a border between pre-war Poland and Hungary.
From the north-west to the top is the Bukovets mountain meadow , from the north - the landscape reserve "Pikui" , from the south and east - the botanical reserve "Pikui" .
Boikas , who live near Pikuy in the village of Bilasovytsia , know how to make "caustic" cheese . It is made only here, and milk is taken from a special breed of cows. They are bred in the settlement of Koshty in the village of Libohora. These animals have very large horns. Locals still cut those horns and play unique melodies on them. And from the milk of these special cows they make a very salty cheese , which was called "caustic" cheese. It is impossible to eat it as an independent dish, but it is an excellent seasoning with baked unsalted potatoes and more.
At the top of the mountain is a four-meter stone quadrangular obelisk erected in honor of the first President of Czechoslovakia, Tomas Masaryk . It was erected in 1935 by the inhabitants of the village of Husny , which before the war, together with the whole of Transcarpathia, was part of Czechoslovakia.
