Marine Serre
History.
Marine Serre was born in 1991 in the small French town of Brive-la-Gaillard. As a teenager, her main obsession was tennis, which she played at a high level. Ten years before Serre made a runway sensation, the young designer was already causing a buzz on the courts. After leaving school, becoming interested in fashion, Marin entered a design course in Marseille.
In 2016, the designer presented to the public her graduation collection, assembled from recycled vintage clothing. This collection was immediately purchased by the Parisian concept store The Broken Arm and dedicated to her exposition during Fashion Week. Demna Gvasalia, who was also on the jury that day, invited her to work at Balenciaga.
A year after graduating from the institute, Marine Serre won the LVMH Prix and its main prize - 300,000 euros.
Marin's first collection, Radical Call for Love, Marin borrowed the title from a political article by her political scientist boyfriend. It was Serre's defensive reaction to the tragic events that took place in the world during her studies. When she was an intern in Paris at Maison Martin Margiela, terrorists seized the Bataclan concert hall and shot down visitors to the Le Petit Cambodge restaurant, and when Serre went on an internship with Raf Simons in Belgium, explosions rumbled in Brussels at the airport and subway.
Radical Call From Love
It took Marin just two years to go from a little-known designer to a rising star in French fashion, and to find stores such as Barneys, Dover Street Market, Nordstrom and SSENSE.
