JOAN BENNETT

Hollywood film actress, radio host.

Joan Geraldine Bennett was born February 27, 1910 in Palisades Park, New Jersey, USA.

Her parents were famous theatrical actors, especially her father, Richard, was famous. In fact, Joan was a hereditary actress of an ancient family of eighteenth century artists. Often her parents, going on another tour, left Joan and her two older sisters to close friends. Joan first appeared on stage at the age of four. At age five, she starred in a movie with her father. In 1923, Joan played a boy in the movie "The eternal city" ("The eternal city"), where her father shone. It took another five years before she reappeared on blue screens.

At 16, she married 26-year-old Jack Marion Fox. Marriage was not happy - Jack drank heavily. They had a baby girl, Adrian. In the summer of 1928, they divorced. To support the child Joan began acting in films. The role in the movie "Power" ( "Power" 1928), where her partners were Alan Hall and Carol Lombard, was a minor, but it was only the beginning.

In 1929, she shone in the film "Bulldog drummond. Later, in just one year she starred in three more films "DISRAELI", "MISSISSIPPI GAMBLER" and "THREE LIVE GHOSTS". Between 1930 and 1931, she appeared in nine more films. Joan starred and was at the peak of popularity until 1940.

In 1940 she married director Walter Wanger. In this marriage she had two more children, Stephanie (b.1943) and Shelley (1948).

After 1950, her stardom was in decline, aided by scandal. Her husband, Walter Vanger, shot the actress Jennings Lang's theatrical agent several times, making him jealous of his wife. Joan Bennett herself categorically denied her love affair with Jennings Lang. Despite the scandal, the marriage lasted until 1965.

Joan starred in eight films and two television series. After the movie "DESIRE IN THE DUST" (1960) she left the stage for 10 years. Her final work was on television, A Love Story (1982).

In 1978, the actress married publisher and film critic David Wilde and lived with him until her death.

Joann Bennett died on December 7, 1990 in Scarsdale, New York, USA, of a heart attack. A star is set in honor of the actress on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
