Bowker founded Starbucks with his two roommates in he was living in SeattleSeattle with in 1971 named Jerry Baldwin (an english teacher) and Zev Siegel (a history teacher) who he met during his time at the University of San Francisco. On March 21, 1971 Starbucks opened in the Pike Place Market in Seattle, Washington. Bowker is credited with giving Starbucks its name, which he named after a coffee loving character in Herman Melville's novel Moby Dick.
