Ribena Carters, a Bristol -based food and beverage company created the delicious Ribena cordial. The drink was first introduced in the 1930s. In 1938, it was named Ribena after the blackcurrant Ribes Nigrum.

Elizabeth Blackwell was the first female doctor in the United States and United Kingdom. She was born in Bristol in 1821 and was rejected by a total of 29 medical schools because she was considered a "joke". She went on study medicine in the United States.
